Flower Care 101: How to Keep Your Bouquet Fresh in the Phuket Heat

Nothing brightens up a room like a fresh bouquet of flowers. But let’s be honest: the tropical climate of Phuket - with its high humidity and soaring temperatures - presents a unique challenge for delicate blooms.

At The Flowers Phuket, we want your flowers to stay vibrant for more than just a day. Here is your ultimate guide to helping your bouquet beat the heat.

1. The "Golden Hour" (Transport & Unboxing)

The moment you receive your bouquet is the most critical. If you are picking them up yourself, never leave flowers in a parked car, even for 10 minutes. The interior temperature can rise to 50°C faster than you’d think!

Action: Get them into a cool environment immediately.

Pro Tip: If you aren’t heading straight home, keep the AC running and place them on the floor of the car (where it’s coolest).

2. Zero Stress: Your Flowers are Already Traveling with Water

We know how crucial freshness is from the very first moment. That’s why all our bouquets - whether for pickup or delivery - are provided in a special travel box with water.

Perfect for Restaurants: If you receive a bouquet during dinner, there’s no need to ask the waiter for a vase or worry about how the flowers will survive the trip home.

Safe Transportation: The special aqua-box protects the stems from drying out and prevents air bubbles from forming during transit.

All-Inclusive: Our signature water-packaging is included in the price of every bouquet. All you have to do is find the perfect spot for it in your interior!

Important: When you decide to move the bouquet into your favorite vase after a day or two, don't forget to re-trim the stems at a 45-degree angle with a sharp knife or shears. This helps the flowers continue to hydrate effectively.

3. Water Quality Matters

In Phuket, bacteria multiply in water as fast as we run to the beach! Bacteria are the #1 enemy of a fresh bouquet.

Temperature: Use cool or room-temperature water.

The "Clean Vase" Rule: It’s not enough to just rinse the vase. You should wash it every day with soap to prevent bacteria from building up on the walls of the vase.

Remove the Excess: Ensure that no leaves are submerged in the water. Leaves rotting in water create the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, which shortens the life of your blooms.

4. Location, Location, Location

Where you place your bouquet in your home or villa is the difference between 2 days and 7 days of freshness.

Avoid Direct Sun: It seems counterintuitive, but cut flowers hate direct sunlight. It dehydrates them instantly.

The AC Sweet Spot: Keep them in an air-conditioned room, but away from the direct blast of the AC unit, which can dry out the petals.

Keep Away from Fruit: Did you know ripening mangoes and bananas release ethylene gas? This gas acts as a ripening agent that makes flowers "age" and wilt prematurely.

5. Daily Maintenance

A little love goes a long way.

Change the water every day (or every other day at most).

Re-trim the stems slightly each time you change the water to keep the "pipelines" open.

Pro Tip from Our Florists:

Some tropical flowers, such as Orchids or Anthuriums, handle the Phuket heat much better than Roses or Lilies. On the other hand, some flowers are extremely sensitive to direct sun and can wilt almost instantly

- Hydrangeas are a prime example.

If you need a bouquet for an outdoor event, ask us for our "heat-resistant" recommendations! We will help you select the perfect arrangement based on its composition. Even different varieties of roses have varying levels of heat tolerance, and we know exactly which ones will stand strong.
